    Amazon Product Description
    The Basics:
Compaq's Presario V2575US 14" Notebook PC is good news for your pocketbook. It may not be the most capable notebook on the market, but it delivers most of today's mobile essentials-and a few surprises-at a most affordable price. The unit is particularly notable for its processor, an AMD Turion 64 that drives both 32- and 64-bit applications and is certainly no slouch in the speed department. The system's 3D graphics capabilities aren't top notch and it does cut a few minor corners for budgetary reasons, but the decidedly economical Presario V2575US offers such perks as high-speed wireless connectivity, double-layer DVD support, and a DVD-friendly widescreen display. The unit is comfortably portable too at just 5.38 lbs. Ultimately, if you're looking for a lightning-fast business machine or a gaming powerhouse, this is not your notebook. But if you need an affordable, lightweight unit for on-the-road computing basics such as sales and customer tracking, finances, word processing, and email and Internet access, you've come to the right place.

    Processor:
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today's notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU's on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, while others are quick enough only for basic duties such as word processing, email, and the like. The Presario V2575US is equipped with an AMD Turion ML-34 processor. The advantages of this, one of the newest chips in the AMD roster, are numerous, including vastly improved battery efficiency and heat dissipation vs. AMD's older notebook chips, and compatibility with today's 32-bit and tomorrow's 64-bit applications.

The Turion in this computer operates at a clock speed of 1.8 GHz, though comparing this chip with its Intel equivalent (the Pentium M), purely by clock speed would be unmerited because AMD builds its chips differently than does Intel. In any case, this is a midlevel Turion that doesn't pack the raw speed of a high-end desktop Athlon or Pentium 4, but is ready for all your typical notebook applications.

    Memory:
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they also keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM) for faster retrieval. More RAM means more efficient computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The Presario V2575US incorporates an impressive 1024 MB (1 GB) of 333 MHz RAM, a surprisingly large allocation for this level of notebook. It's not particularly fast memory at 333 MHz, but given that there's so much of it, multitasking shouldn't be a problem. The unit supports memory upgrades to a whopping 2 GB (2048 MB).

    Video:
CPU's are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output, particularly 3D graphics, to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). A graphics controller with dedicated built-in video memory is preferable to one with shared video memory wherein the graphics controller borrows a portion of the all-important main system memory. This unit's e ATI Radeon Xpress 200M IGP is a common notebook 3D graphics controller, sporting 128 MB of shared, not dedicated, memory. When you put all the key pieces together, this notebook will efficiently display 2D and most 3D applications, but is definitely not a top-end gaming machine.

    Display:
A widescreen display at this price point and in a notebook this compact is not at all common, but the Presario V2575US features just that-a 14-inch WXGA display that's great for panoramic DVDs and a definite help for those who'd like to see more of their documents. Its detailed 1280 by 768 top resolution is also an advantage when working with text-heavy applications.

    Hard Disk:
The Presario V2575US features a large 100 GB hard disk. This much data storage is a welcome perk indeed for those who require a smaller notebook but need to operate a broad range of applications and also keep a library of space-gobbling music and/or multimedia files.

    Optical Drive:
An optical drive is essential in today's computing environment. A CD-ROM drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play This system boasts a versatile Double Layer DVD+/-RW and CD-RW combo drive that not only handles all standard blank media but also supports new double layer DVDs (twice the capacity of standard DVDs).

    Audio:
The Presario V2575US offers microphone-in and headphone-out jacks and two integrated Altec Lansing-designed speakers.

    Keyboard and Controls:
You'll control your notebook via a 101 key-compatible keyboard, a Touch Pad with an on/off button and dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad, and several one-touch hotkeys.

    Connectivity and Expansion:
The Presario V2575US is equipped with today's essential connections. The unit features a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up Internet and email access, a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN for high-speed corded network and Internet access, and 802.11b/g wireless technology with SpeedBooster support for cord-free communication via today's most popular standards, Wireless-B and Wireless-G. Other key amenities include three USB 2.0 ports for plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, an IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders), a 6-in-1 memory card reader, an S-Video TV-out, and an ExpressCard/54 slot (the new and improved PC Card standard). The system does not include Bluetooth or infrared technology, or composite audio/video ports.

    Operating System and Software:
Compaq will pre-install copies of Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition operating system, Microsoft's Works productivity package, Microsoft's Money financial suite, and an assortment of trial edition applications and multimedia/Internet utilities.

    Dimensions and Weight:
At just 5.38 lbs and 13.15 by 9.1 by 1.29 - 1.53 inches, the Presario V2575US is a good choice for users who often carry their notebook on their travels.

    Power:
The Presario V2575US is powered by a 6-cell Lithium-Ion battery.
