Customer Reviews
Uh...
I can't believe the reviews I'm seeing. When I got my computer, a friend told me it would only last for about a year. I didn't really believe her then, but sure enough, it started giving me one problem after anothert a week after the 1-year warranty expired.
There are also many flaws in its design. The touchpad is centered to the computer itself, not to the keyboard. It can get rather annoying to type. Also, the speakers are bad: there is a loud buzzing at top volume, so I've never watched any videos above 85% sound level. Over time, there were problems with the power cable (I've had to buy two replacements in 1 1/2 years), and it seems to be a common problem when I did research online. The keyboard is LOUD when you type. The (k) (l) (,) (.) started to bulk out over the others, so that the keyboard is now uneven.
People talk about Vista as if its a plus. Vista is the bulkiest platform you can possibly pick for a computer that has only 80GBs of hard drive space.
Overall, buy this laptop if you just want something cheap for now. Other wise, save your money.
Nice Machine for the price
This is a nice laptop for the price. The only thing I don't like about it is the Celeron M Processor and Windows Vista. An upgrade to the slowest of the dual core cpu would be a better fit for Vista. Or the Celeron with Windows XP would be great.
Five star equiptment!! Sans Vista
This is a very attractive piece of equipment out of the box. The sleek silver finish is very attractive. The only design flaw is the scroll sensor on the mousepad is too small for larger fingers. The 15.4 inch screen is very bright, crisp, and pleasing to the eye. Vista is the main issue holding this computer back. It drags along and the wait times are comparable to the 175MHz computers of the 90s. It took 30 hours but I finally figured out how to downgrade to XP despite the Compaq site saying it was not possible. I found the drivers for everything and now it works like a charm. This is definitely worth the $399 price.
