The Basics
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
Screen, Video & Audio
You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, which displays an 18 percent larger picture than standard 15-inch screens and offers up to an 18 percent improvement in contrast ratio. It has a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching DVD movies the way they were meant to be seen. Video is powered by the NVidia GeForce 8400M graphics card, which provides up to 895 MB of available RAM/video memory (128 MB dedicated video RAM) for unmatched HD video performance on a notebook PC. With support for Microsoft DirectX 10 Shader Model 4.0 and High Dynamic-Range Lighting (HDR), the 8400M lets you rip through all of today's most advanced and cutting-edge games and applications.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965 AGN LAN chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments).
With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (though no standard PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a good offering of connectivity options:
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Customer Reviews
Terrible
I purchased the HP Pavillion dv6700 series about 14 months ago and have had nothing but problems with it since. My first impression of it when I pulled it out of the box was how heavy it was; but this can be expected with a 15.4" laptop. About six months of use, the optical drive died. I was able to get a replacement under warranty.
Then a few months later, HP's Total Care Advisor told me that my battery was dying. Again, a replacement under warranty.
Then, a few months after that, the right hinge that attaches the monitor to the base became loose. I am now out of the 1-year warranty, and HP tells me that it will cost $300 to get it fixed. That is half the price that I paid for the computer. I ask them where an HP fix-it place is in my area. The only places are the Best Buys in my area, but they won't do anything since I didn't buy the product from them.
I now am working with it while the hinge is still broke. Buy forget about using this laptop on your lap. About 10 minutes of use, and the thing feels like it is going to catch fire any second.
A friend of mine bought a similar HP and he had to have the motherboard replaced after four months of use. Obviously, HP is interested only in mass-producing cheap machines that maybe can last through their 1-year warranties. I will never buy from HP again.
Bad service from ELECSURF. The machine is not working!
I'm very disappointed with the sale and post sale service of ELECSURF. After reporting general failures with the machine they told me to send back the laptop in order to repair or change it. After one more month ELECSURF sent me back the machine (Remember, I live in Venezuela and I had to pay all ship expenses FROM and TO US twice). After this entire odyssey I received the same machine (repaired) but the problem persists and the machine is still working so badly.
The customer service in ELCSURF is just awful, they didn't respond my emails, never kept me posted during the repairing process neither told me when they received it or sent it back, etc...
I called HP customer service in Venezuela and they can't help me because don't bring technical service to that model, so I don't know what to do. I lost all my money!
I still believe that ELECSURF or HP can solve the problem, but I don't know how. I'm willing to change this review if I receive a satisfying answer to solve my problem.

Nice laptop -- when it works.
I bought this product for my daughter over a year ago. It looked good and worked great for about 3 months. She called me from college (out of state) to tell me it was acting strangely. (It was taking a long time to boot up, show a black screen, then shutdown and restart.) My daughter brought the unit home during the Thanskgiving break.
I had the unit shipped to HP service. They informed me that the issue was related to the heat sink. They replaced the heat sink and returned it to my daughter.
The same problems manifested itself a few months later. I returned the unit to HP for service. Again, the problem was heat sink related. I requested a new unit and was denied. Expecting more problems to come, I purchased a Sony Vaio laptop for my daughter. I kept the HP to see what would happen.
The unit lasted longer in my care, but the same problems reoccurred again. At this point, the unit was no longer under warrantee. So, I replaced it with a Macbook.
We loved this unit when it was working. Clearly, there was some defect in this particular unit that HP should have addressed. I have used a number of HP computers over the years and have never encountered this type of issue. More to the point, I expected more from HP service given that the same problem kept reoccurring.
It will be a while before I purchase another HP computer.
